Matt has spent decades chasing waves, competing at an elite level in longboarding, coaching surfers and travelling the world-all while testing just about anything he could get his feet on. The pursuit has always been about drawing timeless lines on a wave and going fast!
At one point, his personal quiver grew to more than 50 boards from surfing’s past and present. Longboards, shortboards, midlengths, guns, fishes, weird things and wonderful things. A student of surf history, Matt has spent years riding, studying and storing the feeling of different boards in his mind. There’s a reason his older mentors call him 'Waxhead’.
Orchard grew out of that obsession. Years as a team rider for surfing’s most respected labels gave Matt the opportunity to learn from great shapers and designers, ride a lot of excellent surfboards and understand how different ideas come alive in different waves.
Orchard is where those influences meet Matt’s own ideas-tested, tweaked and continually refined with the team in search of new feelings and more fun in the ocean.
HISTORY
The Orchard Story
Orchard Surfboards was founded by Matt Chojnacki as an outlet to design, create and build surfboards with purpose. The name comes from Orchard Road in Brookvale on Sydney's Northern Beaches- a street that has shaped both his family story and Australia's surfing history.
Long before coffee shops, breweries and warehouses transformed Brookvale, Orchard Road was lined with market gardens and the orchard trees that gave the street its name. As the area evolved through the 1950s and the surfing boom of the 1960s, it became the epicentre of Australian surfboard manufacturing.
